It’s been described as a massacre. Thousands of people were reported killed when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces seized the Sudanese city of El Fasher, the army’s last stronghold in North Darfur, last week. The total number of dead is not yet clear. But those who fled to the relative safety of displacement camps have been telling horrific stories of what happened around the city.
